There are so many financial metrics out there that you, as an entrepreneur, can track in your business. There are metrics designed to help you track the important things as a start-up, and then you graduate to some next-level metrics as you grow. We have some amazing applications that help us build important dashboards that we share with our customers each month.
As we have launched our consulting program for small business owners, we are excited to include a series of worksheets to help us build a new kind of metric: The Owner Satisfaction Metric.
In meetings and consultations with our customers over the past 21 years, there are warning signs that highlight the eventuality of problems within a company. Many of those warning signs are financial, but some key warning signs are not. Owner dissatisfaction is a huge problem in today’s small businesses, and we have pulled together 4 different Q&A sessions and guided conversations that allow us to assess an owner’s satisfaction with his or her business. We are very excited about it, and in our initial testing, we have seen how powerful it can be. Not only does it show us the areas where an “attitude adjustment” is required, it shows us a roadmap to get there.
Some feelings have foundations; others are completely baseless. No matter your situation, you need to explore them in the context of your business and address the ones that have a foundation in fact and dismiss the others so you can move on. It’s amazing how mired down an owner can become in baseless ideas about a business when all it would take is a 10-mimute discussion to show how those ideas are not grounded in fact. Your numbers tell an amazing story about your business, so we lean on the numbers as well other data points to find the truth.
If you’re interested in assessing your Owner Satisfaction Metric, let us know. We would love to design a consulting engagement around this exploration and help you discover the foundational issues and help you move past the baseless issues that aren’t grounded in real data.
